Professional Experience

Mr. Baker currently manages a division of about 400 staff engaged in many aspects of energy research including energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean fossil energy, and the electric grid. This includes technology development in biomass and hydrocarbon conversion, materials development for vehicles, fuel cells, energy storage, building energy efficiency, and smart grid.

Mr. Baker started his career with Chevron Research in California and spent 14 years as a research engineer at PNNL. Early in his career he worked primarily on catalysis & reaction engineering for fuel processing and alternative fuels development. He helped build and test three engineering-scale gasifiers for biomass and coal. He also worked on separations technology for waste treatment. Mr. Baker is a Battelle Distinguished inventor with 21 patents during his career. He also has received 2 R&D 100 awards, 1 FLC award for technology transfer.
