Message from the Director
It is with immense pride and gratitude that we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our Chemical Engineering program at Washington State University (WSU). This milestone is a testament to the generations of talented individuals—our students, faculty, staff, and alumni—whose dedication and achievements have made this program a cornerstone of excellence within the Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering.
Our program is one of the earliest chemical engineering programs in the United States, which began at Washington State College in 1913, initially offered as part of the Chemistry Department. In 1950, the program achieved a significant milestone when it separated from the Chemistry Department and was established as the Department of Chemical Engineering within the College of Engineering. Our Chemical Engineering program has evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of science, industry, and society. From addressing the challenges of energy and sustainability to advancing biotechnology and catalysis, our program has remained at the forefront of innovation, producing groundbreaking research and preparing leaders who shape the world.
This anniversary offers us an opportunity to reflect on our rich history, celebrate our shared accomplishments, and look forward to an even brighter future.
