The Voiland School offers excellent research facilities, the flexibility to design an individualized academic program, and the ability to work closely with highly engaged faculty. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in an NIH (National Institutes of Health) sponsored training program in protein Biochemistry, and we encourage students to participate in internship programs at partner institutions. For additional details on these programs please see the following sites.

Protein Biotechnology Training Program

The Protein Biotechnology Training Program is sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. It provides opportunities for chemical engineers to work with fundamental scientists in courses, laboratory rotations, and collaborative research.

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)

PNNL is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Battelle Memorial Institute for the U.S. Department of Energy. The Voiland School has arranged opportunities for graduate students to participate in Biomass research and Catalysis research programs at the PNNL.

PNNL-WSU Distinguished Graduate Research Program (DGRP)

DGRP is a prestigious collaboration between Washington State University (WSU) and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), providing enhanced experience for the students. The DGRP is particularly interested in helping to recruit outstanding students to WSU graduate programs primarily in chemical conversions and catalysis; power systems engineering; nuclear science and technology; and advanced computing, mathematics, and data science and analytics. This unique four-year Ph.D. program offers students the opportunity to work alongside world-class researchers at both institutions. Participants receive a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and benefits, funded jointly by WSU and PNNL advisors. Students begin their studies at WSU and later transition to PNNL for immersive, hands-on research. With access to cutting-edge facilities and mentorship from nationally recognized scientists, DGRP scholars are empowered to make impactful contributions to nationally relevant challenges.

For Employers

We are working with a variety of industrial concerns to arrange internship opportunities for our graduate students. We view these as educational experiences and anticipate that student projects performed at these sites may or may not be related to the student’s dissertation research.

Corporations interested in working with us to devise internship opportunities should contact Su Ha.
