Computer Requirement

Effective Fall semester, 2011, all Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering undergraduate and graduate students are required to either purchase or have access to a laptop computer capable of running modern office productivity software (Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, or Google Documents) and Remote Desktop Connection. At a minimum, the systems should therefore meet the following specifications:

Operating System

  • Windows 7 x64 bit or higher
  • MAC OS 10.10 or higher

Processor Architecture

  • Intel Core i5 or i7, gen. 3 or newer
  • Equivalent AMD processor

Memory

  • Minimum 4 GB of RAM
  • Recommended 8 GB of RAM or higher

Hard Drive

  • 500 GB or better

Software

  • Microsoft Office 365 is provided to students for free
  • Optional purchase – Matlab for students $100
  • PDF viewer
  • Virus protection software
