Biography

Dr. Venkateshkumar (Venky) Prabhakaran is currently a Senior Research Scientist in the Separations and Analysis Group in the Physical Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Dr. Prabhakaran joined PNNL as a postdoctoral fellow in 2014. In 2017, he was awarded the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory’s M.T. Thomas Award for outstanding postdoctoral work. Dr. Prabhakaran became a research scientist at PNNL in 2017.

Dr. Prabhakaran’s research is focused on the confluence of molecular-level understanding of ionic interactions and nanoscale phenomena at electrochemical interfaces, and the rational design of efficient and sustainable systems for electrochemical separation and energy storage. His research activities include: (i) obtaining a molecular-level understanding of chemical transformations occurring at well-defined electrode-electrolyte interfaces prepared using ion soft landing, (ii) development of in-situ and operando techniques for studying electrochemical processes at well-defined electrode-electrolyte interfaces, and (iii) application of multimodal spatially-resolved electrochemical imaging techniques coupled with optical spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
