Earning Criteria
- Complete a safety orientation provided by a VSCEB faculty or staff member
- Complete hands-on, in-person laboratory training
- Pass all required online training modules
- Demonstrate at least 72 verified hours of laboratory experience by completing one of the following:
- Earn a grade of C or better in CHE 432
- Earn an S grade in 2 credits of CHE/BE 499 in an experimental laboratory
- Earn a grade of C or better in BE 325 and complete 38 hours of experimental laboratory research or 1 credit of CHE/BE 499
- Complete 72 hours of paid or volunteer research in a VSCEB experimental laboratory
Expectations
Maintaining safe laboratory practices is a core expectation of the Safety Badge Program. Students who receive two documented safety violations will become ineligible to earn a Safety Badge. Students wishing to regain eligibility must submit a written petition via email to the VSCEB School Director. Reinstatement of eligibility is at the discretion of the VSCEB School Director.
